Maximise your holiday | PADI Open Water Referral

This way to learn to dive takes a little bit of planning. You first need to decide when you are coming to Menorca to learn to dive. Then based on this you need to think about doing your PADI referral around 4 to 6 weeks before you leave for your well earned holiday. It can be less time but not too much more, as the skills you will learn in the first half of your course, need to be fresh.

Find a local PADI Dive Centre near your hometown, we can help you with this please just ask or visit PADI’s website. Then tell them that you wish to do a PADI Open Water Referral Course and mention that you will be completing it in Menorca with S’Algar Diving. They will then sign you up and collect a fee from you for this portion of the course. With them, you will complete all academic studies and all confined water training dives.

Once complete, they will issue you with a Student Referral Form or Completion Certificate, please bring these with you or scan and email to us in advance if you can. We will then email you with your final booking information.

Things to remember before you travel

In Spain, a medical certificate is required for certified divers wishing to dive or for students embarking on any scuba diving course that leads to a certification. You will need to have a letter or certificate endorsed by a doctor saying you are fit to dive. Information and a typical blank form can be downloaded here – Medical Certificate | Good to know.

What happens when I’m with S’Algar Diving in Menorca?

Once we have done the necessary paperwork you´ll do a little 20 questions multiple choice quiz, much like the one you´ll remember from your theory part of the course, to make sure you remember everything you need to know, and that all has been covered by your instructor back home. Then, it will be time to get wet. Firstly we start off with a quick pool session just to check out your newly learned skills and to make sure they are nice and fresh. Then we are off! It’s time to start your 1 of 4 Open Water Training Dives. This is all you need to do when you are on holiday and should take about 1.5 days.

This course structure is just great as it gives everyone the best of both worlds. From home training to a short final session whilst you are away allowing to make the most of Menorca. With possible some more diving afterward! After all, you will be a diver then 🙂

What do I get for my buck?

  • All equipment hire for the duration of your course
  • Insurance during the course
  • 4 dives
  • Air fills
  • Professional Team
  • And once you successfully master all the skills etc. final certification.

The first dive centre or referring centre should provide you as a minimum with your own PADI Go-Dive Manual and referral paperwork stating exactly which parts of the Open Water Course have been done.

If you have done any online eLearning, we´ll need the code to use it for your certification.

What is not included?

  • Cost of medical certificate
  • Anything not mentioned above
  • Dive computer

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Swimwear and if you have one of those swim caps with flowers that would be nice.
  • Towel
  • Sweets or an apple for your instructor
  • The medical certificate or letter from your doctor.
  • Packed lunch or funds to enjoy lunch at our preferred restaurant in S’Algar, the Pirata.

Like all training courses, courses are paid for but certification is earned.
