PADI eLearning, Offline Touch or Classroom?
When you start thinking about learning to dive, you might want to give a thought to HOW to learn.
You have a choice of studying online, preparing yourself with the paper manual prior to the course, or in fact, you can spend a day in a classroom with your instructor.
If you are already in Menorca on your holiday, and – to become a certified diver is a spur of the moment decision – I would say your best way forward is to come and see us at Salgar Diving, get your manual, start reading and attend the theory class with your instructor on day 1 of your three-day-course.
However, if you are playing with the idea some time prior to embarking on your holiday, you have a couple of options worth considering. The two main options are either eLearning or Offline Touch.
eLearning | S’Algar Diving, Menorca
Will allow you to study at home on your computer or laptop, whenever you are connected to the internet. eLearning requires flash and is not compatible with iOS mobile phones or tablets. It will give you access to the PADI’s eLearning system, including interactive presentations, such as videos, audio, graphics, and reading. Short quizzes along the way will check up on your progress, and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the program efficiently and at your own pace. When you are ready, you will take the final exam online. The eLearning course will be available for one year from the time of course registration. Though you must finish the online portion of the course within that time frame, you will have perpetual access to an online version of the PADI Open Water Diver manual.
Offline – Touch | Learn the smart way
Will allow you to study anywhere, anytime, with or without an internet connection. You will download the entire program to the PADI Library App (1.4GB), and the only time you´ll have to connect back to the internet is when you are submitting your quizzes or your final exam. This version is perfect for people on the go, who would like to study anytime and anywhere, even in a tube going through a tunnel. Compatibility: Apple iOS- and Android-based devices. Runs in a web browser on PC/Mac in IE or Chrome.
Once you have finished your theory part of your course via eLearning or Offline – Touch, we will be notified that you have completed it and that you are ready for the practical phase of the program. Please print out your eRecord and bring a copy of it with you. Or take a screenshot and email it to us. Or send the pigeon. Anything will work, as long as we have your results at hand when you come to get wet.
Pro´s and Con´s
Generally speaking, the online versions are a little bit more costly – initially. However, you will gain a whole day on your holiday, taking, for example, the Open Water Diver Course from 3 days to 2, giving you time to spend at your leisure.
If you complete the theory part of any course via eLearning, there might be a discount applied to the cost of the practical part of your course. For example, the full, 3-day Open Water Course at Salgar Diving including 1 day of theory in our classroom and 2 days of confined water and open water training comes to €450,00
If you finish your theory via eLearning, the remaining 2 days for the practical part of your course come to €350,00 The eLearning access code for an Open Water Diver will cost €140,00
Any cost of the online versions for any of the PADI courses is nonrefundable. The fee covers the knowledge development training and gives you unlimited access to an electronic version of the Manual (course textbook).
